On Friday, February 3, Team Howie is challenging Pam Damoff and Kevin Flynn to a death match. Or, more accurately, we're challenging them to a bowling competition at the 2012 Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (BBBSH).

The fundraiser will be a fun event at Classic Bowl from 6:30 pm to 9 pm, with dozens of teams…and some interesting cat calls across the lanes.

The bowling event is one of the largest annual fundraisers held for BBBSH. The organization states their mission simply as, 'to help kids in need make healthy life choices through positive mentoring relationships.'

But if you talk to a little brother or sister (someone who was mentored) or a big brother or sister (someone who mentored a little), it's a great deal more than that. It's an opportunity to grow as a person. It's a way to give back to the community and see real, one-on-one change in someone's life. It can be the most satisfying and rewarding experience of your life...and theirs.

Join us in our support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton by registering your own team, joining an existing team, or donating (preferably to Team Howie!) online at www.bbbshalton.ca and clicking on the 2012 Bowl for Kids Sake logo.

Residents are encouraged to lace up their bowling shoes for the upcoming Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake, benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (BBBSH).

“Every dollar raised will go directly towards ensuring that the children in our programs are matched with a caring, adult mentor to provide guidance and friendship,” Barbara Ferrone, BBBSH executive director, said in a news release. “Participating in Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake is an investment in a healthy and positive future for our children and youth.”

Organizers say this year’s goal is set at $50,000.

Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn and honourary chair for the fundraising event says he has seen first-hand the work BBBSH has done, acting as a Big Brother himself.

“As an organization that does not receive any government funding, the work they (BBBSH) do is nothing short of remarkable,” Flynn said in the release.

“I’m proud to continue supporting the organization in any way that I can and hope the community will support this incredible organization.”

Groups of up to five or six friends, family or co-workers can choose from one of five bowling dates at locations happening across the region, including at Oakville’s Hopedale Bowl (inside Hopedale Mall at 1515 Rebecca St.) on March 23 and 30 from 4:30-7 p.m.

Bowls will also take place in Georgetown and Mississauga in February and March. Prizes will also be awarded for the best costume and team spirit at each event.

For more information or to register, call 905-339-2355 or visit www.bbbshalton.ca. A full list of participating locations can also be found online.

Bowl for Kids Sake to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton

Published from: Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce E-Bulletin

Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake isn't about being a good bowler it's about having a good time while raising money for a great cause! Our goal this year is to raise over $50,000. Thanks to people like you and through the support of your local Tim Hortons stores, the lives of over 700 children in Oakville, Milton, Georgetown and Acton were brightened through the continuing work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton. Every dollar you raise helps match kids with a mentor. Research shows that children who have been mentored have higher self-esteem and are more likely to stay in school - empowering them to succeed, give back and realize their true potential. Visit www.bowlforkidssake.ca for more information and to register a team or sponsor a player today! Sponsorships are still available: Contact bbbshalton.ca for more information.
