Homework Club Study Mentors are adults and high school students from our community giving of their time to assist children who are experiencing academic difficulties or who require help in maintaining their grades.

Youth volunteers are high school students who have a minimum of 70% grade average. This is a great program for earning high school community service hours as well as gaining experience for future careers and references for jobs, post-secondary school or scholarships.

Homework Club Supervisors are adults with a background and/or experience in most of these areas and demonstrate the following abilities :

  • Teaching or social work background
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in supervising of children and teenagers in a group setting
  • Ability to manage a group of 35 young people in a positive manner
  • Empathy and understanding of children, who lack self-esteem, have significant difficulty with schoolwork or other social or emotional difficulties
  • Desire to work in a team
  • Reliability and ability to take charge
  • Problem solver
  • Willingness to devote 2 hours per week during the school year from approximately 3 – 5 p.m

All volunteers have the opportunity to make a positive impact on a child's learning experience by being matched with one student for a full school year.
