Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton holds special events monthly, in order to provide children on our waiting list the opportunity to participate in a recreational activity on a regular basis. We want them to feel part of the agency while they wait for a 1:1 match.

These events also provide a time for socialization with peers in a group setting and a chance for children to experience community based opportunities.  Our monthly special events may include swimming, skating, crafts and other special outings.

Recreational Volunteers are men and women who commit 3-4 hours once a month to a group activity that usually takes on a weekend. Volunteers accompany one or two Little Sister(s) or Little Brother(s) to the monthly special event.

The Recreational Volunteer gets to spend time with a number of children for a few hours per month at an outing planned and organized by trained staff.

Group Recreational Volunteers must complete the Big Brother or Big Sister application and training process.

Application Process consists of: 

• Complete Application form
• Provide 3 references
• Obtain Police check for yourself
• An interview will be conducted by a trained Case Manager
• Child Safety training will be provided by trained Case Manager

4. Expect a call to arrange an interview with one of our Volunteer Enrollment Specialists. 
5. Once you successfully complete all of the enrollment procedures, our staff will take care to match you with a Little who shares your interests.
