Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton is working hard to recruit volunteers so that no child will have to wait to be matched. However, while we reach out for volunteers, there are many boys and girls who are waiting right now. That wait can seem long to a child. It's so important to help each child feel connected to the organization and provide a chance for them to participate as well.
First Mentors is a 4 week program that provides boys and girls who are waiting for a Big Brother or Sister, the opportunity to get out, participate in an event or craft and enjoy the friendship of peers and adult volunteers.
This program was developed in partnership with Appleby College, the Oakville YMCA and the Milton Community Resource Centre. All partners are committed to ensuring that every child will receive service upon referral to the program.
Men and women can volunteer in this program and take a child on the waiting list to an organized agency activity. Game nights, tours, sporting events and crafts are just a few of the activities volunteers and children will enjoy. All it takes is just a few hours of your time once each month.
If you wish to be involved with this program please apply as a Group Recreation Volunteer.
We are grateful to the Halton Healthy Community Fund for their generous support of this program.
