Program Purpose:
Healthy Bodies Healthy minds, is a mentoring program designed to encourage physical activity participation, healthy eating choices and the development of a positive self image, among girls ages 12 -14.
Program Description:
A 7 session program, lead by volunteer female mentors aged 18 - 30, Go Girls incorporates fun, educational games and activities, to stimulate, mentor/participant relationship building as well as self-reflection and group discussion about healthy living and emotional, social and cultural issues.
Volunteer Commitment:
· One session requires a total of 35 hours of commitment (including a 10-hour training session)
· Volunteers must be able to commit 2 hours, once a week, for 7 weeks to the program. Programs run in local elementary schools in the Halton region either during the lunch break (anywhere from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm) or afterschool (anywhere from 2:45 pm – 5:00 pm)
Volunteer Requirements & Qualifications:
· Meet the age requirements of 18 - 30 years
· Must have use of a vehicle, or able to secure transportation to and from a local elementary school once per week
· Must live in Halton (except in special circumstances)
· Have the ability to relate to young females
· Be personally suitable and mature, exhibiting mental and emotional competence
· Successfully complete each phase of the volunteer screening process
· Participate in 10 hours of Go Girls! training administered by the agency
· Agree to function within the guidelines of the agency

Please note that due to the extensive training required, sessions will be held twice a year in September and January. All volunteers in the Go Girls program must complete 10 hours of training.
Next training will take place on:
Saturday, January 14th (9:00 am – 3:00 pm) AND
Monday, January 16th (6:00 pm – 9:00 pm) at BBBS Halton – Oakville Office
Program Timelines:
Fall (last week of October – 2nd week of December)
Winter (last week of January – March Break)
Spring (first week of April – end of May)
